Our Sustainability Strategy

Sustainability is one of the foundations of GC&C’s 2025–27 Next Level Plan. In alignment with Generali Group’s Lifetime Partner 27 strategy, we aim to drive profitable growth while creating a positive impact on people and the planet.

As part of the Group’s commitment to acting as a Responsible Insurer, Responsible Employer and Responsible Corporate Citizen, our sustainability strategy is built around four strategic programs, each supported by dedicated actions and measurable targets.

Our sustainability strategy is based on four strategic programs. Each program is supported by dedicated actions and measurable KPIs.

Climate Change Adaptation

Supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy

Supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy is a strategic priority for GC&C. This commitment is reflected in our emission reduction targets and in the development of climate insurance solutions that support our clients’ transition journeys.

As a Group, we are committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To support this ambition, we apply restrictions by excluding and limiting the underwriting of risks related to thermal coal and oil and gas sectors.

We offer climate insurance solutions, including dedicated coverages for renewable energy projects, and continuously engage our clients in addressing environmental challenges through dialogue, expertise and dedicated risk management solutions.

Climate Change Mitigation

Strengthening resilience to climate-related risks

We are committed to strengthening societal resilience and reducing the natural catastrophe protection gap through dedicated insurance solutions, including parametric coverages that support long-term resilience and sustainable growth.

As climate risk volatility intensifies, organisations are looking for new ways to strengthen resilience and preparedness. Parametric insurance offers a complementary form of risk transfer, providing predefined payouts linked to measurable triggers.

As Generali Group’s centre of excellence for parametric insurance, we contributed to a joint report with UNDP exploring how these solutions can help organisations prepare for natural hazards and strengthen financial resilience.

Partnership Development

Building partnerships to accelerate sustainable progress

We believe that meaningful impact can only be achieved through collaboration. By working with public institutions, international organisations and corporate clients, we seek to address sustainability challenges and contribute to resilient and inclusive growth.

Through Generali Group’s long-standing partnerships with UNDP and UNIDO, we have contributed our expertise as the Group’s centre of excellence for parametric insurance, including the joint report Parametric Insurance to Build Financial Resilience published in 2024.

Through the Advancing Climate-Resilience and Transformation in African Coffee (ACT) Programme, we provide technical expertise to UNIDO to support more climate-resilient and sustainable coffee value chains in Africa.

Alongside these public-private partnerships, we support our corporate clients on their sustainability journeys and reinforce our role as a Lifetime Business Partner through sustainability-linked initiatives and collaborations.

Workforce Transformation

Empowering our people and reducing our operational impact

As part of Generali Group’s commitment to acting as a Responsible Employer, we promote wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion, support continuous learning and implement more flexible and sustainable ways of working. At the same time, we measure, reduce and report the carbon footprint generated by our direct operations.

At YE25, Generali Group had reduced emissions from its own operations by 48.5% compared with 2019, remaining on track towards its target of a 60% reduction by 2030.

We are committed to embedding sustainability into our people strategy by strengthening sustainability literacy across the organisation through initiatives such as the GC&C Sustainability Month, which is open to all employees.

We also mobilise our people and resources in support of The Human Safety Net, Generali’s foundation for vulnerable communities. Our colleagues participate in volunteering activities, contribute as THSN Ambassadors and support initiatives that create positive social impact.
